Video Game Sales Rise By 7% In 2014

Posted on December 31, 2014 at 8:10 pm

With over £2.5billion spent, video game sales rose by approximately 7.5% in 2014. Despite the rise in sales, physical sales of games are still on the decline with £948 million spent, equating to a decline of approximately 6.6%.

The rise of digital game sales online was the reason for the 7.5% overall increase in video game sales with over £1.5billion spent this past year. This is an increase 18.8% compared to the year previous.

The video game sector was the highest grossing area of the UK entertainment market, but bear in mind this may be due to the fact of higher costs. Unsurprisingly sales of music and film took another hit with music sales dropping by 1.6% and film sales dropping by 1.4%.

PlayStation 4 is a game console from Sony Computer Entertainment. The game console had great success in the gaming market in 2014 having sold over 10 million pieces. The growing demand for the game has been fuelled by the continued release of creative and entertaining games for the PS4. You can join the fun by a new game or save on your cost by considering pre-owned PS4 games.

The Game Console

The PS4 game console was launched in November 2014 with major upgrades from its predecessor – PS3. PS4 is slicker, has a faster processing unit and provides more opportunities for shared and social gameplay. If you are still on the PS3, it may just be time to upgrade by purchasing new or pre-owned ps4 games. Another major advantage of the PS4 is its capacity to interact with other gaming and non-gaming devices through PlayStation Now. Through this feature, players can play games stored remotely online by streaming the games live to the PlayStation game console. There are also PlayStation Apps available that can be downloaded to smartphones and other computing devices and these apps enable playing PS4 games using these devices for alternative screens. PS4 also has PlayStation Vita’s design that provides for remote gaming on wireless technology. (more…)
